Igneous (forms from a melt) Sedimentary (fragments of rocks packed together) Metamorphic (pre-existing, formed at extreme temp.) 2. Why and how do rocks melt? Heat, pressure, composition 3. What is the difference between magma and lava? Magma is intrusive- cools slowly. Lava is extrusive- cools rapidly. 4. What is the difference between extrusive and intrusive activities? Extrusive: lava, rapid cooling, small crystals, aphanitic Intrusive: magma, slow cooling, large crystals, phanaritic 5. There are three types of igneous textures, what are they and relate them to the difference types of activities. Ex- extrusive activity. Phanaritic- intrusive Aphanitic- extrusive. Porphyritic- both (slow -> rapid cooling)
