and mission and message of Jesus is universal – for all humankind. Luke 2, 8-14 -> The Birth of Jesus: When the angel comes to the sheperds it says, “I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.” The messiah has been born for all human salvation. “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” Jesus is sent to us as a gift of God’s love. In IV: Ministry in Galilee the section Othe Healings: This passage just gives othe examples of Jesus’ healings in Capernaum. The second to last sentence Luke 4, 43 says, “But he said to them, To the other towns also I must proclaim te good news of the kingdom of God, because for his purpose I have been sent.” That sentence alone I think emphasizes what he was sent to earth for. Last I would say is the Resurrection, Luke 24, 44-49 He is speaking to his disciples and says, “Thus it is written that the Messiah would suffer and rise from the dead on the third dayand that repentance, for the forgiveness of sins, would be preachedin his name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.” Again Jesus was here for our all salvation. His actions were out of unrestricted unconditional love. What does Luke mean by the following: Son of God; Kingdom of God; salvation. 2

Son of God: From the Messiah to the Chosen People to the Son of God for all people.” Again Luke stresses the universality of God’s love and salvation for all. Jesus was for all people’s salvation. Kingdom of God: Matthew says the rule of God is the Kingdom of Heaven but its not because that makes people believe that the focal point of Christianity is then to get to Heaven which is wrong. The work of transforming the world bringing about peace is the theme of the Kingdom of God. Salvation: Begun with Jesus, to be carried out by those who believe in his mission. “God’s mercy is the source of this salvation. Christians are to show mercy in the same way that God is merciful.” Salvation is forgiveness, healing, rescue, liberation from internal enslavement, joy, peace, and praise. 7. Discuss the significance of the “beatitudes” (“Blessed be …” 6:20-36) as Luke narrates them. The “Beatitudes” are the healings of Jesus to those who are less fortunate. 8. Why does Luke narrate so many stories of Jesus as healer? Support your answer by references to the gospel. I believe Luke narrates Jesus as a healer because he stresses the theme of salvation. In my notes I have that salvation begun with Jesus, to be carried out by those who believe in his mission. The passage I mentioned in question 6 called Other Healings I think is a perfect example of that. He heals all different diseases that people of the town have and when he
