Personal Monitoring: A personal dosimeter as well as a ring badge may be needed as determined by the gradient from the extremity to the whole body of 150%. If it is determined near critical quantities of Pu- 239 are present, a criticality badge should be worn. Finally, local continuous air monitors should be placed around the glove box to detect a breach. Air samplers should be setup to detect alpha particles from the Pu and Am. Air Monitoring/Sampling: A continuous air monitor is needed in case of glove box breach; it should be in the airflow such that it will alarm at as low of a limit as practicable typically 1/10 th of a DAC. Fixed filter systems should also be placed near the worksite to detect small leaks over time. Job Coverage Requirements: A radiation protection technician should be available with an alpha survey instrument (Such as a ZnS (Ag) probe) and a GM to detect any potential contamination spill. A thin NaI detector would be useful in detecting Am-241 photons. The technician should survey the person after
