retains eye characteristics upon transplantation to challenging environment. 5. What does it mean for a cell to be “differentiated ”? A differentiated cell has reached the final stage of commitment 6. Compare and Contrast Mosaic and Regulative Development: a. Mosaic: The idea that the embryo is made up of independent, self-differentiating parts that, if removed from the embryo, would still differentiate into their normal fates. Occurs when cytoplasmic determinants are regionally localized within unfertilized egg. After fertilization these determinants are apportioned to the different cells as the embryo divides. These cytoplasmic determinants specify cell type by regulating expression of different sets of genes E.g. 8 cell tunicate embryo b. Regulative: the developmental potential of its isolated parts is greater than the normal fate of each part. Depends on interactions among neighboring cells. Each cell has the ability (potency) to become any of many different cell types, but interactions of the cell with other cells restricts its fate E.g. 4 cell sea urchin embryo

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
