students as they move through the writing process. Assessing and analyzing will allow the students to effectively move through the different stages of the writing process (Rog, 2007). Emergent and beginning literacy learners develop their listening and speaking skills by being engaged in literacy activities where they have to use those skills. Oral language is an interictal part of early literacy skills and is the foundation for learning to write and read (Reutzel & Cooter, 2016). Research has stated, the beginning literacy learner must hear rich vocabulary from reading alouds as well as having conversations with adults, and peers in order to increase their oral language skills. It is critical for teachers to create lessons where emergent and beginning literacy learners can connect listening and speaking with literacy skills.
4Literacy-rich classrooms are classrooms where students are participating in listening, talking, reading, and writing throughout any given school day (Stone, Rivera, & Weiss, 2018). I have always felt my classroom is set-up in an engaging way because of my choice of color scheme, lots of rich texts, and helpful resources. Students in my classroom feel comfortable in conversating and learning from each other within their learning communities. During this course, I realized my classroom library is missing books on topics which interest the different learning styles of my students. I have also realized I need to organize my classroom library by Lexile levels. Organizing my classroom by Lexile will make it more beneficial for my students to access books on their reading levels while still selecting books of interest to them. Reading more and more grows students to be better lifelong literacy learners.
