storm will do something bad to them because she says that they feel like God was measuring their puny might against his. Obviously God has almighty power. Which is very big and if he were to measure it against him then their might would be nothing measured against God’s might. Also God’s might would overthrow them. Therefore, Janie and Teacake were watching God’s might.
“Of course he wasn't dead. He could never be dead until she herself had finished feeling and thinking. The kiss of his memory made pictures of love and light against the wall. Here was peace. She pulled in her horizon like a great fish net…She called in her soul to come and see.” 193 The meaning of dead refers to no longer living. When we think of something being dead we no longer see any power in it or hope in it. In this case Janie does not see Teacake as somebody that is dead. His body may be dead but his soul isn’t. She doesn’t see him as something dead because he still flows through her thoughts and memory. The fact that she pulled back her soul into her, shows that Teacake is still plentiful of power and power is not dead.
“The Catcher in the Rye” “I don’t care if it’s a sad good- by or a bad good-by, but when i leave a place i like to know i’m leaving it. If you don’t, you feel worse.” 7 I completely understand Houlden Caualfeild’s thought about this. Not knowing that you are no longer part of something hurts. Especially when no one tells you. The act of no one informing me about information about me shows that i’m not worth being told anything. It shows that no one cares to tell you anything because it supposedly does not matter. “Life is a game, boy. Life is a game that one plays according to the rules.” “Yes, sir. I know it is. I know it.” Game, my ass. Some game. If you get on the side where all the hot-shots are, then it’s a game, all right—I’ll admit that. But if you get on the other side, where there aren’t any hot-shots, then what’s a game about it? Nothing. No game. 12 I believe life is a game if only you let it be a game. A game usually tells the player how to play it and what happens next if something is occurring. Life in general is a choice. We live in free will and choose to live in free will. Most of the rules we have to follow are the laws. When i think of laws i think of things we should not do instead of things we have to do.. Such as, do not murder, do not litter, do not pass the red light, and so on. When Houlden says “If you get on the side where all the hot-shots are, then it’s a game, all right” i could relate that to the government because they have to live with a bunch of rules and the people on the other side are considered the ones who don’t live by a game.
“What really knocks me out is a book that, when you’re all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it.” 25 This quote really shows what kind of person Houlden really is. He looks for more than just
