Such a situation leaves families paying bad debts accumulated to sustain a lifestyle. This essay shows that the effects of gambling are overwhelming. In the recent past, gambling has been sanitized by the media to make it look like an acceptable vice. These massive advertisement campaigns have resulted in mushrooming of hundreds of casinos and betting sites. In the most extreme cases, gambling leads to suicide when the player becomes stressed and depressed. Gambling which has become an acceptable social vice should be regulated because it has led to the loss of livelihoods and it has also led to the rise of a generation that believes they do not need to work hard to move forward in life. Instead, they think that gambling will be their ticket to riches when they hit the jackpot.
