Some positives of this system, in which the pharmacist also commented on, was that there is easy communication with the pharmacist at any given time. There have been many times where I have had to call the pharmacist due to just needing something as simple as how long an antibiotic needed to run. For the pharmacist however, having quick access to call or text the physician if they have questions in regards to an order that was placed, helps to expedite the order being processed; they are able to quickly get their questions answered. Another very helpful aspect of this system, is that it crosses over information easily from Paragon to Omnicell, which is where all of our medication is stored. There is a delay when medications are D/C’d off the MAR, however, as stated in the interview, if you are scanning at bedside as well, you are able to catch that, and avoid a medication error. This delay has been brought up many times, and as our facility transitions to EPIC, this issue should resolve then.
