The senators' anger grew as all three admitted they could offer no guarantees against another calamity in the Gulf. "There is just nothing there underneath your statements," said Barbara Boxer, the chair of the Senate environment and public works committee. "If you look at what's happening it is very very disturbing." (Goldenberg, 2010). But other senators acknowledged a failure of regulatory oversight. "We dropped the ball here," said Max Baucus, a Democrat from Montana. Social & Ethical

Running Head: SAME CRISIS, DIFFERENT COUNTRY These two areas go hand in hand almost, because first of all social issues are usually affected by ethical decisions. For example in Toyota’s case, the company decided to make a decision to recall 740,000 vehicles, and lose millions to fix their “error” and with this single act, the ethical decision of the company to save lives and make sure their cars are safe, made the company more socially aware, and made it more attractive to the consumer, when it comes time to buy a new vehicle in the future. BP’s ethical decision to make sure that they were taking care of their “mess” and making sure they had accountability to the public and to the government. This company took painstakingly hard decisions to make sure that they were doing the things the right way, rather than the fast and easy way. How can a company not want to make sure their reputation is sound, and that it’s going to be a beacon of light in corporate darkness. In the last few months we have seen noble acts, by some companies like these in two industries that are always being vilified by our government and our left wing, driveby media. Legal When it comes to legal action on the behalf of either of these companies, first you have to know that because they were up front about their problems, and either took action, or recalled a huge segment of their product, they have set themselves up to not really incur any legal claims on the part of the consumer or shareholders. They may see legal proceedings brought about by our government in an attempt to either drive them out of business or make an example of them,

Running Head: SAME CRISIS, DIFFERENT COUNTRY but to be on an “enemies list” or “the chopping block” is irresponsible on the behalf of our government namely, because these companies did the right thing, and wanted to make sure they were above board with those that matter most to them… people! The disclosure takes the recall of its cars to a new level, because now Toyota faces potential criminal and civil liability from the government and not just its owners. These investigations come on top of a Congressional inquiry, with hearings under way in Washington.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
