I believe that through young adulthood, personality is really shaped by environmental factors more so than genetic factors. As I examine my own life, I have noticed that my personality is heavily influenced by my peers. I have shifted away from what I have always though and felt, and I am now developing into my own person based on my current surroundings. I believe this will always be true for me. My personality will continue to shift based on my surroundings. I will never drastically change my personality type, but I believe small alterations occur to everyone over time based upon their environment. According to the textbook, personality in young adulthood is defined as mental capability. At this phase in life,

one can decide who he/she is or who he/she wants to become. It is very individual based. That being said, young adults have full control of their lives, and thus, full control of their success and failure. Both personality and intelligence both play a factor into that.
