When we have finally finished our mortal experience

When we have finally finished our mortal experience, we will still continue to learn and grow towards perfection. Joseph Smith taught, “When you climb up a ladder, you must begin at the bottom, and ascend step by step, until you arrive at the top; and so it is with the principles 11

of the Gospel—you must begin with the first, and go on until you learn all the principles of exaltation. But it will be a great while after you have passed through the veil before you will have learned them. It is not all to be comprehended in this world; it will be a great work to learn our salvation and exaltation even beyond the grave” ( Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith , Section Six 1843–44, p.348). Someday we will have mastered all of the characteristics and attributes of God. Then and only then will He give us “all power” (see D&C 132:20) like unto Himself. Then we will know as He now knows that we will use that power according to the perfect pattern of a Perfect Person, even as God. Let us now consider seven possible scenarios concerning the relationship of faith to priesthood, to the will of God and the resultant blessings. I will list them and discuss each in as much detail as is necessary to verify the position and give scriptural proof where appropriate. 1. No faith, no priesthood, and it is not the will of God . Obviously in such a situation, there would be no miracle or blessing received. One must only look what is happening in a faithless world to see the fulfillment of this situation. In a world where God, even the mention of Him, has been barred from the classroom, from the halls of government, from public billboards, and from anywhere where it might remind people that we are still “One Nation Under God”, is it any wonder that in times of sickness or trials, many people fail to look upwards? 2. No faith, no priesthood, but it is the will of God . In such a situation the will of the Lord will be done. Such is the case with the multitude of blessings constantly being showered upon the wicked as well as the righteous. For example crops grow, flocks multiply, businesses flourish, health is enjoyed, wealth is accumulated, and enjoyments are engaged in. It isn’t the 12

short term prosperity where the scales of justice are balanced, but the eternal scales of justice. The Savior taught the Nephites, “But if it be not built upon my gospel, and is built upon the works of men, or upon the works of the devil, verily I say unto you they have joy in their works for a season, and by and by the end cometh, and they are hewn down and cast into the fire, from whence there is no return” (3 Nephi 27:11). 3. No faith, priesthood blessing, but not the will of God . In such a situation no blessing would be received. This scenario seems obvious. If a person bearing the priesthood gave a blessing where the recipient had no faith in the pronounced blessing and for whatever reason the priesthood bearer was oblivious to the will of God, then that blessing would not be realized.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
