The reason for this is because when individuals know who falls into these categories of in groups and out groups this will determine who they treat the others. This will help determine the level of intimacy between people. For example, the relationship between a couple will have a stronger connection compared to a relationship between an employee and employer. 3. How does group cohesion relate to influence/conformity. What did the variations in the Asch experiments reveal about why people conform? For a group to have group cohesion it is important for the members of the group to want to stay in the group because they enjoy interacting with the others in the groups and this creates unity

within the group. As the group is able to interact with one another and each member is willing to invest themselves in the group then group cohesion in the group will grow stronger. This is able to relate to influence or conformity because in the group each member is able to have an influence on each other from understanding their attitudes, status in the group, and actions from each member. Through group cohesion this is able to conform the members in the group to have the similar goals and ideas. Within Asch’s experiments he was able to test how and why people conform to the others around them. He was able to discover that the people in the group were conforming to the majority of members picking the wrong answer. Since there were many members choosing the wrong line, it made the subject question whether he was choosing the correct answer because the majority of the group was not saying what he thought. 4. Under what conditions are task- versus relationship-oriented leadership styles more effective? How does this relate to the three phases in the general pattern of leader emergence? Under different situations will differ in which leadership style is most effective because with different situations comes with different abilities that may suit the situation or not. The difference between task oriented and relationship oriented is that task oriented is about directing and completing the job that is at hand while relationship oriented is about supporting and connected to the others in the group. Each one has their own way of completing things and depending on what the leader leans towards decides how the group will function. For example, if there is a deadline for a project it is important to have a task oriented leader who understands that things need to get done by a certain date. When there is a disagreement between two co-workers it is important to have a relationship oriented leader who is willing to take the time to help settle the disagreement and help both of the employees work through it to have a steady work environment. This is able to relate to the general pattern of leader emergence because if a leader is able to balance both a task and relationship oriented leadership style it can help the group as a whole. A leader is able to take control of a group because they need to be able to
