Also because of this financial difference African Americans are twice as likely to not have insurance as their white counterpart. This leaves them open to not receiving the proper health care they may need to maintain a good health (OMH, 2012). The other form of stress that contributes to black infant mortality and premature birth is the stress of racism. “Birth outcomes are affected by the negative impact of racism over one’s lifetime, not just during pregnancy. Racism in America is an added source of chronic stress for people of color (Unnatural causes when the bough breaks, BB 2012).” Because there is unequal treatment this builds up anxiety and hormones of stress within the mother who is pregnant. This racism wears and tears on the African American woman who is pregnant and has proven to help trigger premature labor (Unnatural Causes when the Bough Breaks, 2008). This stress wears and
