What would you prescribe and for how many days? Include the class of the medication, mechanism of action, route, the half-life; how it is metabolized in and eliminated from the body; and contraindications and black box warnings.I would suggest Mr. JD taking over the counter pain relievers such as Tylenol to alieve the headaches and manage the fever. I would educate the patient on closely following the label on the Acetaminophen and to follow directions to avoid side effects. For Mr. JD’s cough I would prescribe Tessalon Perles (Benzonatate), orally 100mgTID as needed for cough. I would suggest this antitussive agent because it is a non-narcotic medication. Because of his age of 24, some patients may become addicted to narcotics at an early age. Side effects of this medication include hypersensitivity,

headache, dizziness, constipation, nausea. It is a pregnancy category C. Tessalon works by anesthetizing the stretch receptors located in the respiratory passages, lungs, and the pleura. It beings working 15-20 minutes after administered and lasts 3-8 hours. Individuals should not exceed a single dose of 200mg or a daily total of 600mg. An over-the-counter antihistamine would be great to dry out Mr. JD’s nasal decongestant. Popular antihistamines are Benadryl, Claritin, and Zyrtec. A decongestant could also be recommended to help relieve his stuffy nose. Sudafed is an extremely popular decongestant, but it does have side effects that the patient should be educated about. For example, insomnia, nervousness, and irritability can occur when taking this medication (Mayo Clinic, 2019). Since this cold has persisted for 14 days and has not resolved on its on, I would prescribe amoxicillin for the sinusitis. It would be prescribed at 250mg orally every 8 hours for 10 days. Side effects of amoxicillin may be nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, change in taste, or headache. Amoxicillin is a penicillin antibiotic that treats several different types of bacterial infections. It is usually excreted through the urine within 6-8 hours and the half-life is 60 minutes. Would this treatment vary if Mr. JD was a 10 year-old 78 lb child? Include the class of the medication, mechanism of action, dosing, route, the half-life; how it is metabolized in and eliminated from the body; and contraindications and black box warningsYes, it would vary if the patient was a 10-year-old, 78 pound child. Over-the-counter cough and cold medications are not suggested for children12 years and younger due to the possible fatal overdoses and side effects. Over the counter pain reliever may beused to reduce the fever, such as Tylenol and Advil. Tylenol is recommended at a dosage of 1 tablet (325 mg) for children 47-110 pounds every 6 hours. Advil or Motrin is recommended at 2 tablets (200 mg each) for children over 96 pounds. The parent needs to

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
