Scene 4 – A Soldiers Defense - Scene where slave women start to talk about their horrible experiences - State that Tereus takes part in these horrible things done to women (rape) - Philomena wants to believe that the women brought these actions upon themselves, and that they deserved what happened (wants to see the war as only righteous) - Philomena can be seen as willfully blind to the rape that is happening in the war so she does not have to do anything about it Scene 5 – Bind Us Together - Shows the contrast between the two sisters - Scene 6 – Jaws of the Beast - The marriage between Procne and Tereus occurs - The consummation of the new couple also occurs (the sex seems almost forced upon Procne by Tereus) - Scene 7 – Revenge - Blood is something you cannot distinguish between love and war - Slave women are talking to Procne about what Tereus has just done to her (taken her virginity) Scene 8 – The Request - Tereus sees Philomena now that she has grown, and now thinks about her in a lustful way - Wants he so badly he starts to cry, because he cannot have her (everyone else thinks he is crying because he loves his wife so much) - Tapestry is represented by a long, white sheet on stage; the tearing out of the tongue is seem in the shadow on the sheet - Procne’s reaction is immediately revenge
