participants. When I search the term “decriminalizing prostitution”, more of the results I get relate to its legalization vs its decriminalization and how it has been experimented with in other countries. The difference between legalization and decriminalization, I have found, is that if something is legalized, the government is in charge of its rules and regulations. If something is simply decriminalized, one cannot get in trouble for it. I have decided to focus on decriminalizing sex work because I have learned that after its legalization in certain countries, many prostitutes felt like they had even less choice with their bodies due to the government ruling what could and couldn’t happen. Countries that decriminalized sex work though, seemed to have less trafficking of women as well as less STD/STI issues because of the workers’ power intheir personal decisions. There is already some subjectivity when it comes to the legality of prostitution in America, I have learned. According to articles I found when researching “sex workin America” on Academic Search Premier, the definition of prostitution differs between each state. In Nevada, sex work is legal in a handful of counties and regulated in licensed brothels. In other states, though, selling sexual acts is only a criminal act if it includes penetration while in others even touching with clothes on for money is illegal. There are currently many arguments and efforts for the decriminalization of sex work, and those are the types of journals and articlesthat I am interested in researching. I just want to educate myself and my audience on the

current controversy related to sex work around the world and whether or not decriminalization in America would have a positive outcome social, economically, and legally. Annotated Bibliography: (Auguston)- This article defines sex work, identifies crimes related to sex work, explains the currently recognized and unrecognized legal defenses, the situations with legalization in Nevada and Rhode Island, the larger federal regulation scheme for sex work, some constitutional issues raised by illegality of sex work, and current arguments and efforts for decriminalization. Auguston does a very good job at giving an in depth perspective of what is currently happening in America in the sex industry. This source is located in the LexisNexis Academic Library and was last edited in 2015 and is a quite qualified source. I plan to use this source in order to express how complex and diverse the industry is. This will also be a good source to cite when it comes to the current situation America is in relating to the subject of prostitution.(Farley)- This article explains a study of sex work in 9 different countries, including America. It compares and contrasts the cultures and the sex industries within the cultures. It also mentions the common misconceptions that people have of prostitution and explains how these are not always correct. This source is from a private journal based on violence and PTSD, and is written and edited by people that all have phD’s in their specific disciplines. I plan on using this source
