component to transfer it thus cache acts as a buffer to solve any transfer problems Issue: The issue with cache data is that it needs to be kept consistent, for example if in a component some data is changed and that same data is stored in the cache then it must be updated in there too and this affects mainly in multiprocessor systems where more than one process might be trying to access that data. A component could be replaced by a cache under specific circumstances such as if said component can retain data while the device is powered off the cache must be able to do so as well. 6. (15 points) Discuss, with examples, how the problem of maintaining coherence of cached data manifests itself in the following processing environments: a. Single-processor systems memory needs to update when a processor issues updates to cached values b. Multiprocessor systems different processors might cache the same memory location in the local caches c. Distributed systems The updating and consistency of cached data is not a problem for this type of system however it becomes an issue when a client caches data from a file 7. (5 points) Describe a mechanism for enforcing memory protection in order to prevent a program from modifying the memory associated with other programs.

A base and limit register can be used to prevent modification of memory, what this does is that if a program attempts to go past the memory its restricted to the OS will be notified and will stop it from doing so.
