medications such as antidepressants, anti-anxiety medications, and antipsychotic medications (Hjelmeland, 2011). Other method of treatment is psychotherapy which includes counselling or talk sessions that help the individual manage their emotions better. Family support too helps with coping and building better relationships in that period. For prevention, family and friends can act as a support system by having honest and open discussions. The comfort and feeling of support in times of needs helps the person to feel better and hence cloud their suicidal thoughts. I would define suicide as the voluntary and intentional taking of one’s life. Each culture and society play a significant role in the way the members of the said community view suicide. Some cultures see suicide as a source of power in that the dead person leaves the other people in a place of vulnerability. In other cultures, suicide is a cowardly act. Yet in heavily religious communities it is a sin. Finally, other cultures view suicide as a noble act. A good example is the Japanese act of seppuku or a ritualistic disembowelment (Leach, 2014).
