NARCISSISTIC LEADER V. COVENANT LEADER Christmas 4 pitfalls and successes of each, and by acting as a newly appointed chief of police within a department filled with narcissistic leadership qualities; a change plan will be developed in order to develop an organization with covenant leadership principles from a Christian perspective. The Narcissistic Leader A narcissistic person is one that seeks attention and must always be in control (Ackerman, Witt, Bonnellan, Trzesniewski, Robins, and Kasky, 2011). This person seeks the attention and praise for others, and often do things just to receive the glory. Narcissistic leaders display feelings of envy, self-absorption, superiority, grandiosity, inflated self-esteem, arrogance and instability of emotions/mood among other things. The more power that is gained, the more narcissistic the leaders become. They think on impulse, and often times become very irrational in their pursuit to their goals due to lack of self-control. This characteristic is often frowned upon but may be beneficial when needed. The narcissistic trait may be needed in the area of leadership. The narcissistic leader can be very goal oriented but become so ruthless in their efforts that they lose care of everything around them. A goal driven leader is important to have in any organization, but if their irrationality outweighs the goal it could become a problem. They think on impulse, and often times become very irrational in their pursuit to their goals due to lack of self-control. A historical example of a narcissistic leader would be Adolf Hitler. Hitler was known for his charm and charisma, but he let his greed for power condemn a nation. Salem states, “ Hitler's shrewd use of propaganda, his captivating speeches…and his manipulation of the Nazi message to appeal to all audiences…helped the Nazi Party capitalize on the Great Depression to become the largest party in the Reichstag by 1932” (Salem, 2007). Hitler achieved much success, and also forced many people to suffer from his decisions. A fictional example of a narcissistic leader

NARCISSISTIC LEADER V. COVENANT LEADER Christmas 5 would be from the tv show “The 100”. This is a tv show whose plot is based on 100 people leaving space to see if earth is inhabitable. When they get to Earth, they realize that they are not the only people there. Many wars begin to breakout over the land between the sky crew and won crew. Eventually a radioactive gas explodes and forces each crew into a bunker. “O” or later known as “Blood Reina” became leader over the sky crew and won crew, who were all trapped in a bunker. In her efforts to make tough decisions on punishments, rationing food, etc. during their five-year entrapment, she became more and more hungry for power. People would either pledge their loyalty to her and abide by her rules, or they would be put to death. She was a
