Also through the actions of Anti-Semitism God is visible in the book of Esther. This book teaches that believers can trust in God for relief and deliverance as Mordecai did. Esther says to the Christians that anti- Jewish hostility is intolerable to God, for they are chosen people. Also it teaches that God is faithful to His covenant. Throughout history, people have exercised programs against the Jews; God’s chosen people (Exodus 19:1–6). In the book of Esther, to attack the Jews is to attack God. Haman found this out. That is why Haman became the paradigm by which all subsequent enemies of the Jews are judged. Breneman (1993:289-297). What should be our conclusion? As Baldwin (Esther:16) says: “The book is in the canon. So we must decide what value it has for us and what should be our response.” Its firm position in the Jewish canon and the consensus of Christian believers since the early church indicate that it should be considered part of the canon of Scripture. We have no choice but to recognize and treat it as part of God’s message to his people, Breneman (1993:294). Conclusion Within this assignment I briefly explained the doubt in some scholars about the history of the book of Esther and offered some reasons to accept the historicity as evangelists. Further I also discussed how God is the central character around this book in the OT. - 11 -
