ARTISTIC EXPRESSION: CARING As the healthcare field progresses, caring has been in literature throughout the start of nursing as a holistic approach initiative. From Nightingale in the 1800’s to now, as we consider the advancements in technology and skills, no one can dispute that these advancements are monumental. However, care and caring as a whole is more than just a simple cure to an ailment. Caring is a patient-centered experience and knowledge based synthesis of all aspects of the nursing profession. Caring as noted in the literature is an approach to care in which each patient is seen as a human being whose personal experiences affect their health and wellbeing directly (Hemingway, 2013). Take for instance the 5 Cs of caring, developed by Sister Simone Roach. Roach focuses on caring initiatives each nurse should encompass for proficiency in caring. These concepts are: commitment, conscience, competence, compassion, and confidence (Roach, 2002). The application of these concepts in our daily routine as nurses lead to improved work relationships, improved patient relationships, and increased the likelihood of career advancement when considering the long term goals in advanced nursing practice. All in all, the use of caring as an essential part of the nursing profession has been proven time and time again.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
