The people have reached a state where they don’t believe that things could possibly get worse, where they believe that they don’t have anything left and have nothing to lose. Their lifestyle has been impacted and they want change. What usually happens when people reach this mindset? They protest. The most recent protests, the Greek protests of 2010, started off as a peaceful movement fighting against the austerity measures that the Greek government planned to put into effect. Not only were the citizens of Greece suffering from unemployment and a poor economy, they were now expected to pay higher taxes to try to help the Greek economy recover and also receive no government spending help to help them be able to survive. What started off as a peaceful protest though quickly turned extremely violent. In protests all around Greece, especially in Athens, riot police started using tear gas, smoke bombs, and flash bombs to push off the protestors. Huge crowds were subject to these violent actions.
