the big kids walk together while holding each others hands. It’s a cute sight until Jenny falls but she gets back up and they go back into holding hands again. As they are walking inside, there aretwo older girls that are making noises which Jenny imitates right away. They all walk into a bathroom area where there are six sinks that are in a line. Jenny goes to one of the sinks and washes her hands with the help of a volunteer. She walks into the room and stands by the gate that she has stood by previously to see what is going on in the otherside of the room. It is now snack time. All the kids are sitting around the table, patting their hands on the table top, ready fortheir snacks. Two of the volunteers go around the table, passing out goldfish while the other finishes up washing ones hands. Jenny is one of the last at the table to get her snack and she makes it known that she still doesn’t have it by waving her hands and yelling. Now that she has her snack and drink, she isn’t even touching it. One of the children at the table starts banging their bottle on and the rest follow suit including Jenny. After the noise dies down, Jenny eats a couple of goldfish and drinks the rest of her water. She watches around as teachers and volunteer walk about the room. Time 4:15 PMSetting: It is the middle of snack time and Jenny is getting her water refilled for the second time (since I’ve been here and it only gets filled half way). She slowly eats goldfish one at a time, taking small bites. After she gets tired of delicately eat them one by one, she grabs a handful and shoves it into her mouth. Jenny seems more interested in what everyone else is doing than her snack. Then the banging of the bottles starts to occur again and Jenny mimics them while taking a few sips in-between. She says some words which the volunteer recognizes; itis indistinguishable. While there is goldfish all over the table and floor, Jenny’s area is surprisingly neat. Once she is down, she flips the plate and rubs it around the table while occasionally smashing it with her hands. She babbles while she does it. When the music starts to
signal clean up, Jenny waves her plate around and sings to the music. A parent walks into the room and Jenny gets up and starts cleaning before going over to the little slide. She stands at the top, singing and watching the rest of the class before she starts to cry. While it isn’t sure why she is crying, it is probably for attention, she starts to giggle when people pay attention to her. She goes up the stairs and slides down the slide multiple times while singing to herself. Then she runsof the a teacher while and raises her arms demanding to be held. When she gets picked up, the teacher wipes her face and they play for a couple seconds her she is set down and directed to play with her friend. When sings her friends name and starts to run around the slide. For the last few minutes I’m here, she runs around the slide area and watches the volunteers and other students. End Time 4:30 PM
