They would begin to notice which variations were identified as “classy” and which were considered “street slang.” In my experiences, I noticed the existence of two perfect examples representing each side of the spectrum. The first is the Spaniard's variation of Spanish, in which all words are fully and elegantly pronounced. On the other end is the Dominican variation, in which short cuts are the hallmark. In my high school, Dominicans were disliked because they were seen as loud, obnoxious, and difficult to understand. They were avoided, and many people became irritated at the sound of their voices. On the other hand, Colombians, who speak a more formal style of Spanish, were praised and socialized with.

In order to get a well-rounded understanding, the researcher will need to ask multitude of questions. These questions would not only pertain to the life of the students in school, but also outside of school, as well as a history of their heritage. Participant observations would be the ideal method to use and be most effective.
