how the family interacts with the social environment on a grander scale as well as how the social policies in place affect the family as a whole. Holosko, Dulmus, & Sowers (2013) stated, “The key challenge is to recognize how the common themes of making available material and social resources and achieving health and well-being for all family members are constructed within the global economy and have different meanings across different contexts.” When reviewing the Cortez family scenario from the micro level standpoint I can see multiple strengths. The main strengths are the level of Paula’s resiliency. She has encountered numerous life changing medical conditions including HIV and Hepatitis C. She has also been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, yet Paula has been able to maintain independent living outside of a hospital setting for more than 5 years (Plummer, Makris, & Brocksen, 2013). From a mezzo level perspective Paula was admitted to a skilled nursing facility after experiencing partial paralysis on her right side.
