D1 The FDA influences nursing practice by effectively regulating the medications we as nurses administer to our patients. They ensure proper usage of these medications, possible side effects, and provide prompt notification if they suspect safety is compromised through recalls. (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2018). CMS influences nursing practice by being a major influence on the entire healthcare system. Because it makes payments to providers of Medicare and Medicaid, it has specific regulations on medical care and costs to help prevent waste and reduce medical care costs. (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, 2018). D1a Every patient is entitled to make their own choices in their medical care. While many of these alternative treatments are deemed safe and effective, this is not always the case. As a nurse and patient advocate, it is imperative that I help educate and promote safety for these therapies, so the patient can make an informed and appropriate choice in their medical care. E The Nurse Practice Act is in place in all 50 states to protect public safety. It helps to create a board of nursing, set appropriate educational standards, define the scope of nursing, define the types of licenses available, gives requirements for licensure, and possible disciplinary actions. 8 PRV Task 1 The Nurse Practice Act for the State of Utah outlines the scope of practice for nurses. This Act states that as a nurse I am responsible and accountable for my own nursing practice and that I must provide care consistent with my training, organizational policies, and existing rules. It also states that I am expected to maintain knowledge of current best practice standards, trends, and be aware of the rules governing licensure. (Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing, 2018). E2 According to the State of Utah, delegation of the RN includes the delegator retaining accountability for the delegated tasks, and not delegating tasks which require specialized knowledge or skills to those who are unlicensed. It is also imperative that the delegator provide necessary instruction and directions as well as overseeing the stability and condition of the patient for any tasks that have been delegated. (Utah Office of Administrative Rules, 2018). F In my current role as a maternity nurse I must be a detective every day. Whether it is determining the source of a patient’s pain, the reason for an infant not eating, or a set of vital signs which falls out of the normal range, it is my job as a detective to determine the sources of these problems in order to provide appropriate care for my patients. My role as a scientist is to take an overall look at certain practices and policies and determine if we are allowing for the best, most efficient care for our patients. A scientist can play a key role in change and improvement as evidence is found that would indicate a need for chance in the current practice.

9 PRV Task 1 As a manager of the healing environment, I work with our nursing managers, educators, and committees to improve the care we provide for our patients. Are we following the guidelines and procedures we have set in place? Are our current outcomes following the set guidelines we
