The impression I get from this piece is one I truly enjoy. This song is vibrant, it is upbeat, it is a journey from beginning to end. This piece showcases Ella Fitzgerald's fantastic ability to use her voice as an instrument and tool that has kept her a legend untouched by the sands of time. This piece reminds me of the glamour of old Hollywood, the roaring 50s that captivate popular culture even today. This piece showcases how grand jazz can be. Discussion Board #3 Django: Topic 1 The piece I have chosen to write about is “Django”, by the Modern Jazz Quartet. This is one of my favorite bands and I really enjoyed this song. The song was recorded in 1960 and was written in tribute to Django Reinhart. Django Reinhart was a Belgian gypsy guitarist that Lewis admired and wanted to be like. It is very unique and has a combination of bebop and jazz. The rhythm of the song is very soothing and peaceful in my opinion. The song is very catchy in some parts and it is very clear that Jackson is very skilled at the vibraphone, especially during his solo 37 seconds into the song. Jackson really emphasized an upbeat and soothing style. I enjoyed the transition into the piano which was the second soloist done by Lewis. This has a little faster tempo and keeps the listeners on their toes. During the entire peace, there is usually always a secondary music line that I noticed. I enjoyed being able to listen to both piano and bass play alongside the solos. As another student stated, this style could be classified as a third-stream jazz due to the blended European classical music style in their work. Bebop and jazz have some similarities as well as differences. Many of the same practices are used in both styles which makes them go nice with one another. They also have the same rhythmic counterpoint, which means that there are two melodies being played at the same time. I have learned to really enjoy jazz and all of the specific types of jazz. It is interesting to me to be able to listen to these songs that I may have never took the time to do before and now actually understand how they are made and what exactly is going on in the song.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
