These methods are very effective in getting the information that is wanted out of the prisoners being held by ISIS.Attacks by ISIS on the HomelandISIS has conducted many attacks, or claimed them, around the world. Looking at the past few years, there have been twelve violent ISIS-inspired attacks on our homeland since 2014. Since 9/11, 103 people have been killed on American soil with a direct link to the terrorist organization. There have been six lethal attacks in recent history, where ISIS has claimed the lives of people in the homeland. These attacks would include an incident involving a truck in Manhattan which left eight people dead in October 2017, a transit guard being shot and killed in Denver in January 2017, a mass shooting which killed 49 people at Pulse nightclub in June 2016,a mass shooting in San Bernardino, CA in December 2014 that claimed the lives of 14 people, a beheading that occurred in Oklahoma in September 2014, and a series of four killings between April and June 2014 across Washington and New Jersey (Haltiwanger, 2017). These attacks show that ISIS is still alive and well on our homeland, which shows a direct effect on the US homeland. Part 2 IntroductionNow that information surrounding the ideology, targeting, tactics, capability, overall goals, and analysis of attacks has been looked at pertaining to ISIS, it is important to look at U.S.homeland security policies that were created to counter the threat posed by them. Not only will policies be looked at, but also groups that have been created to try and eliminate ISIS, minimizing the chances of attacks on the United States. Policies that were created to counter terrorism would include PDD-39, HSPD-11, and the Secure Border Initiative. All of these policies and details surrounding them will be looked at in detail.Policies AnalysisThere have been many policies created as a result of terrorism and attacks on our homeland. One of those would be PDD-39, which is the U.S. Policy on Counterterrorism. The purpose of this policy is to “deter, defeat, and respond vigorously to all terrorist attacks on our territory and against our citizens, or facilities, whether they occur domestically, in international waters or airspace or on foreign territory” (“U.S. Policy”, 1995). Although this policy is pretty broad, it was a stepping stone to try and prevent some of the attacks that were occurring. Some ofthe main objectives of this policy are to reduce the vulnerabilities of terrorism, at home and abroad by looking at specific areas that needed work. Those areas would include enhancing counterterrorism capabilities, responding to terrorism, ensuring responsibilities of lead agencies, interagency support, transportation, and many other issues (“U.S. Policy”, 1995).
