many upsets but what keeps them going are the small moments, even if for a split second, of happiness. But what exactly qualifies the protagonist as an “outsider”or inferior? The definition of an outsider brings us to the subject of conformity. An outsider is usually defined as someone who does not follow the norms of mainstream society. No one ever wants to be the one exiled so most of us adjust and adapt. We make ourselves fit the persona believed to be right for the society we belong to. Society convinces us that to be happy we must fit their image of happiness, however this is far from true. For true happiness you do not need to conform. It is true, that in a mainstream society con- formity is required for a rewarding life due to the windows of opportunities acceptance brings. But mainstream society does not provide the only means of happiness. Giving in to society takes away from individuality, something that our protagonist realizes at an early age. Loss of individuality forces you to fall into a mold similar to everyone around and you are no longer true to your self. We all were not meant to be the same and this is what motivates the protagonist for his speech. He hopes to break
