Academic HonestyAcademic irregularities cannot be tolerated. Attempts to compromise the integrity of this course willresult in a grade of zero for the assignment or dismissal from the class. Students must not collaborate onthe exams in any way (including the use of materials from former students) and must not copy materialfrom any source to use as their essay answers. See the HCCS Student Handbook for details.AttendanceYou are encouraged to attend each class since regular attendance correlates with good grades. Be ontime and attend the entire class.You must notify me via email if you will be absent, late or need to
ECON 2301page 8leave class early.If you must be absent, you are, of course, responsible for catching up with the materialcovered in class in your absence (see the Course Calendar). You must show that you tried to catch up onthe work you missed before requesting for the instructor’s help.If you are absent without notice orexplanation, any requests regarding content missed will not be attended to.Be advised thatinstructors must drop students who fail to attend class by the official date ofenrollment (“Census Day”).In addition, instructors may drop students who miss six hours of class time.Make-up ExamsA make-up exam will be considered only for students with regular attendance indocumentedemergency/dire situations. Approval for a make-up exam is at the discretion of the instructor. Whereapplicable, prior approval of absence from exam is required. The final exam must be taken with theclass, as scheduled.WithdrawalIf you decide to withdraw from the course, it is your responsibility to do so online via thePeopleSoft student management system. If you need assistance, visit the counselors’ office on yourcampus. You may wish to discuss your decision to withdraw from the class with your instructorbeforehand.Classroom ConductI expect students to conduct themselves professionally in their communications with me, theirclassmates, college staff and administration. Students who engage in acts of distraction will be warned.If behavior is not corrected or re-directed properly, the student(s) will be asked to leave the classroom.Acts of distraction during class include but are not limited to walking around the classroom, talking outloud to other students outside a class discussion, a tendency for whispering, using devices, notcomplying with theinstructor’sefforts to moderate class discussion or refusing to stop talking,leaving/entering the room excessively, talking spontaneously without theinstructor’sacknowledgment.You are welcome to arrive at class early but should maintain an academic atmosphere always. No loudmusic or phone calls. Also, please conclude your loud, lengthy or non-academic discussions in thehallway.
