RESPONSE 3 Hi Alyssa, Nurses must endure subpar working conditions which manifest themselves physically, psychologically and emotionally as previously discussed they also place their very licenses on the line in these extreme circumstances. The significance of nursing shortages is marked by its impact on society. One death caused by a medical error due to being short staffed is too many. Therefore, the effects of improper staffing due to shortages is considered to be a significant problem that plagues our healthcare system. The impact of nursing shortages is felt by all stakeholders in such ways as it compromises patient safety due to existing nurses having to work longer hours under very stressful conditions. Overworked nurses experiencing burnout make errors placing everyone involved at risk. The patient suffers from lower standards of care exponentially increasing mortality rates (Billstein-Leber, Carrillo, Cassano, Moline & Robertson, 2018). Reference Billstein-Leber, M., Carrillo, J.
