Little expressed preferential treatment towards women under his leadership which was causing a rift between the other team members. All team members would be expected to meet the same requirements and follow obligatory rules and procedures. Moreover, in the example when Little fired a major because he couldn’t figure out Little’s personality. Instead of firing the major I would have used this time as a coaching moment to explain what I was looking for from the major. It was clear there was a misunderstanding in what Little was expecting and what the major was attempting to deliver. Instead of advising the major of what he wanted, he fired him because he didn’t provide what he wanted to hear. I would have explained to the major that I expected him to defend his information to me and prove that his calculations were accurate. There should never be an instance of firing a good employee because of personality misunderstandings. There will always

Recommend at least three (3) strategies to the Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile program management team with a view to improving its operational performance. Provide three (3) specific examples to support the response. Three strategies for improving the Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile program would be to create goals with team members, listen to the employees expressing their needs, and provide training as needed. Creating goals is essential for employee morale and success. It allows employees to accomplish milestones and maintain a schedule to make the goal attainable. “Setting goals that challenge everyone in the organization to strive for better performance is one of the key aspects of the planning process. Goals must be aggressive, but realistic” ("Importance of Planning in an Organization," 2010). Terry Little provided an overall goal for his team to meet the deadline of 6 months. That was his focus during the entire project. What I would recommend is to set individual goals or goals for each sub team, to break the project down into smaller parts. Listening to the employees is an invaluable strategy to retain good workers and for eliminating the less dedicated employees. By listening to your employees, it allows them to feel heard and appreciated in the organization. Any concerns or issues they may have can be addressed with open communication tactics that begin with an avenue for the employee to feel comfortable speaking to management. “To be able to motivate and inspire others, you need to learn how to listen in both individual meetings and at the group level” ("How to Really Listen to Your Employees," 2015). Lynda Rutledge expressed the issue of preferential treatment shown to another woman lead on the team. Rutledge attempted to inform Little of the problems the favoritism was causing between the other team members. Not only did Little acknowledge his
