Enthusiasts are described as versatile, spontaneous and easily distracted. The challenger was someone with distinct vision, confidence and assertiveness. Team members who tend to be straight talking, decisive and confrontational were considered challengers. Peacemakers were agreeable, respective and reassuring. They have the unique ability to bring members together and act as an exceptional listener. Besides motivating members individually as their personality dictates, it’s equally critical to unify them through the use of universal common motivators. IV.2.5 Types of decisions team members made and how effective they were? There are different methods for team decision making. Understanding decision making models allows teams to make appropriate answers for the various problems. There are six ways of making decisions. 1. Individual- The individual who is responsible for the outcome makes the decision. For example, leader was responsible to handle all the other members of the team. But this method doesn’t work if they made a decision that impact others without discussing it with the team first. 2. Minority- A subgroup of the team wakes the decision, either as a group or in individual consultation with the team leader. This method made sense when all members have the information needed to make a proper decision. 3. Majority- Majority rule is usually obtained by voting or polling. This method is appropriate for all team situations. 4. Consensus- One of the most effective but also time-consuming methods of team decision-making is to seek consensus. Consensus takes longer to achieve, but implementation is faster because the decision is understood and supported by all. 5. Unanimous consent- This way is easy to make simple decisions. For example, “should we finish the meeting now”. 6. Plop- This way was always an ineffective method of decision making. Someone suggests an idea, no one responds and the conversation moves on. The idea just plopped. From these various types group members made decisions to have training event. 21 Professional issues & Practices Sachini Perera (Batch 80)

IV.2.6 Issues faced when building the team Choose or building the right team is vital for the success of any task. A task needed a variety of skills and qualities which are not presented in any individual. Somehow as a workaround, a team should be built of members with a different kind of skills to fulfil the event. The main advantage of choosing group members with a mix of personality types is that it provides a wider range of views towards a task or any specific action item in the task. Different views allow for a broader angel to a problem and solution minimizing the risk of missing requirements. By the way there are many issues that can be faced when making a group. One is lack of trust. Team members absolutely need to be acquainted, both professionally and personally, particular in projects where tensions will run high at some point.
