I think punishment does deter crime. People know that if they break thelaw there will be consequences. If there want any kind of punishment, people would break laws all the time, because there would be nothing to stop them.2.Do you think that alternative sanctions such as boot camps are positive or negative for society, individuals, and the criminal justice system? Why?I wouldnt say these alternative sanctions are negative to society, individuals and the criminal justice system, but more negative toward the criminal. Boot camps wont rehabilitate, just imprison. Boot camps remind me of work camps, like in the holocaust.3.Why do you think more victims don’t report crimes? How does this affect the criminal justice system?I think many victims dont report crimes because they are afraid to do so. I know many rape victims dont report their assault because they feel like no one will believe them. This affects the system by having innaccurate statistics.4.Do you think juveniles should be tried in adult courts? Why or why not? What effects are there from trying juveniles in adult courts?I do not think juviniles should be tried in adult courts. These are kids who really have no ideawhat they are doing, they dont know right from wrong. By trying a juvinile in an adult court is giving them an unfair trail, they are going to possibly get life in prison, and their life has barelybegun.5.Do you think that parole is a positive or negative element in the criminal justice system? Why or why not? What effects does it have? Should officials be stricter about parole? Why or why not?I think parole is a positive element in the criminal justice system. It prepares many criminals for life on the outside, it helps them rejoin society as a productive, law- abiding citizen, however, many parole
officers are overwhelmed with cases, making the parole system alot more relaxed than it should be. Parole officers should be strict with their parolees, but theyre unable due to thier workload.
