loved the sorrows of your changing face;Third Stanza“And bending down beside the glowing bars, Murmur, a little sadly, how LovefledThe speaker tells the woman that she is imagining herself as an olderlady in this line. The phrase "bending down beside the bars" implies that sheis imagining herself as an elderly woman seated by the fireplace, reading abook prepared by the speaker. The speaker describes the woman he isspeaking to as letting out a quiet, sad "murmur" in the next line. She isdepressed as a result of "how love fled." This is the first clue provided by thespeaker, Love. This next stanza I think shows Coherence, as it showsdifferent stretches of language link to each other. from “And bending downbeside the glowing bars, to murmur, to a little sadly and to how love fled. Itshows different structure but it still links to each other.“And paced upon the mountains overhead, and hid his face amid a crowd ofstars.
Famaranco, Irish Kate A.Sir. Algene deGuzmanABELS 3-5"He paced upon the mountains overhead and hid his face amid a crowdof stars," Yeats writes in the final two lines after Love has fled. “And hid hisface amid a crowd of stars,” the final line, brings back wonderful imagery, asthe reader imagines “Love” hiding among the stars in the heavens. Yeatswould seem to be telling his lover that, while his love for her will always bethere, she will never be able to reach it, just as no one can reach into the skyand picks out a star. This last part of the poem shoes Cohesion as the Lexical“and” links things.“And paced upon the mountains overhead, andhid hisface amid a crowd of stars.”Module 3: Reading Jonathan Culler’s “Literary Competence” (1975)TASKS:Instructions: Give what each activity asks for.
