Mental health promotion seeks to foster individual

Mental health promotion seeks to foster individual competencies, resources, and psychological strengths, and to strengthen community assets to prevent mental disorder and enhance well-being and quality of life for people and communities.” [Kob11] In short, mental health promotion is the continuum of all things with a positive impact on the varying dimensions of mental health. PTSD can be combatted by remembering that the necessity of help does not indicate weakness and can only stand to improve life satisfaction as a variable measure of mental health. 8 PTSD ANALYSIS IHP325 and improving one’s ability to respond effectively in the face of danger are other recommendations I’d make in the onset/course of PTSD. Noted perspectives on the global understanding of PTSD allot for the complexity of the disorder as a cross-cultural concept. Allan Young states that, “the reality of PTSD is confirmed empirically by its place in people’s lives, by their experiences and convictions.” [Dev15] Trauma, by that definition, becomes a much broader concept as it crosses cultural lines. The universal understanding of it envelops stressors that seem entirely foreign to the U.S. yet reveal a great deal of global disparities between what constitutes psychopathologic illness nationally. Subjective analysis of the disorder on a global scale reveals that enculturation processes impact both the interpretation of, and the response to, trauma. Outward symptoms and coping mechanisms vary greatly. Where one culture might reflect on individual position after a diagnosis of PTSD is made, another might choose to refocus their worth into their society. “Trauma and mental illness can be seen throughout the world; however, people react and cope differently from one culture to the next. Best practices in one culture do not necessarily translate to another. A finding such as this, while disappointing and humbling, can offer occasion to examine some of our core assumptions about the nature and universality of mental illness.” [Mul13]. In conclusion, post-traumatic stress disorder is a mental disorder that we are all at risk for. Fortifying a sense of resilience is imperative to building up positive mental health and adjusting one’s adaptation reflex in defense of the aftermath of most traumatic instances. However, in cases both extreme and minor, PTSD will undoubtedly appear. Seeking early treatment may help resolve the disorder quickly, but symptoms and side effects are usually episodic and may begin to dwindle within six months to a year of onset. Various methods of

Cognitive behavior therapy, exposure therapy, and psychotherapy are the most favored means, and their significant effect on psychological well- being is dutifully documented. However, both prevention and intervention methods of the future deal with early detection and intrapersonal examination. Seeking help for this disorder does not

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
