like this happen” when addressing the children of the nation. These simple words helped the children understand the full effect of the speech. When addressing the families of those that werelost, Regan uses the words, “your loved ones were daring and brave”, to create a more emotional response and genuineness. Regan repeats the word “pioneers” in speaking about the nation and the astronauts themselves. It further gave a meaning of bravery. Regan establishes logos with a quote about Sir Francis Drake since the explosion occurred on the anniversary of his death: “He lived on the sea, died on it, and was buried in it”. He explains that if Drake was remembered while exploring his frontier and that the seven members of the shuttle will also be remembered inthe same way. In doing this, Reagan gave honor to those that died. The work of the seven explorers was compared to Drake’s work. This was a very powerful speech to a distressed nation.
