public. There was a span of 3-4 presidents where there was a massive cover up of information the government was hiding from the public, information that was highly important and that should’ve been released. But this is where we run into problems. I feel as if the government would use this to their advantage, and truly hide important information from the public, but I also think that if something is so graphic and horrible that it wouldn’t do the public any good to know about, I feel like they don’t need to release it; finding this fine line between different ranges of importance in information is a problem, but if we are able to find it, our country could benefit from an Act like Britain’s. Senator Thomas of Colorado made a statement about America’s freedom of the press amendment. He said, “Of all the times in time of was the press should be free, that of all occasions in human affairs calls for a press vigilant and bold, independent and uncensored. Better to lose a battle than to lose the vast advantage of a free press. I am a thorough believer in the freedom of the press, I know that freedom has been abused though. It is abuse in countries like this” (Sterne). This statement backs up one of my thoughts about not controlling what is published, because eventually it is abused and everyone else has to suffer because of it. Sources: Martin, G. (2019). The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
