Current Tools The Eugene HCC utilizes an all-employee survey (AES). This survey is anonymous and is sent out annually. The AES is not mandatory but highly encouraged. This electronic survey questions employee satisfaction. Data is collected and analyzed for each unit as well as the facility. The data is then disseminated to the upper management as well as middle management. From the results, leadership selects 3 areas that were low scoring. The data is then disseminated to all employees. A plan is in place, but employees are also encouraged to participate in ways to improve the low scoring areas to boost employee satisfaction. Improving Employee Engagement The measure I chose to improve employee engagement is shared governance. Meetings will need to take place if possible, during the workday so more staff can attend. When staff meet and brainstorm ideas of ways to improve issues or concerns that affect the clinic. From the brainstorming session, staff will decide on one concern they want to tackle. Shared governance improves employee engagement as it gives staff the opportunity to give their input and be a part of positive changes. Nurses that feel values have better job satisfaction and better nurse retention. Leadership Best Practice
NURSING LEADERSHIP7The best leaders are ones that have good communication skills, show integrity, recognize good work, mentor new and senior staff, and are not afraid to help on the floor when staffing is tight. A great leader is always seeking out ways to help their staff grow and reach their goals. They are enthusiastic and focus driven all while maintaining a positive attitude. Staff will feel that they are approachable and have mutual respect. When a unit has a great manager leading them, they are likely to be more satisfied with their job. Satisfied employees provide better quality care for patients and have less turnover.
