In August 2014 I started school at Southern University, and I was happy to be back at home. Being at Southern University made me feel right at home. I joined many clubs like the Education club. I was close to many of my friends, I moved into my own apartment and my grades were above average. During my second semester at Southern University, I joined a mentorship program and it changed my life for the better. Going into my first semester I was an Education major focusing on early childhood. After being around young girls who were crying for help moved me so much that I changed my major from education to psychology. When I looked at some of the young women in front of me, I saw myself. And when I heard their story, I noticed a pattern within our community. It was that mental health was not a priority as it should have been. I wanted to be a change in the community that I live in. I wanted to make sure young people have the resources and access to be able to process the many emotions that teenagers go through on a daily. After graduating from Southern University, I took a year off to do something I always had a passion about. I started my own clothing line and dedicated myself to having a successful business. I felt it was important to have something of my own, so starting this business was a great success for me. Today, social media is very important. The power of social media has proven itself to be great. This is where I found and met my role model, Raynell Steward. She was just a regular girl from the outskirts of New Orleans now she’s a multi-millionaire and CEO of The Crayon Case Cosmetics. She did not only motivate me, but others around the world.

My story is not yet complete. I hope in the future that I’ll be able to help people that are in need. I want to educate parents on some disorders that aren’t severe, like select mutism. My mom wasn’t educated on what was going on with me so she wrote it off as me just being a shy kid. Once I am finished completing my master’s I want to be able to open and provide a resource center for young females in the city of New Orleans. I want to be able to make all young women feel beautiful, safe and free to communicate any problem that could occur in the life of an everyday girl. My goal is to gather up of team of experienced women from all walks of life and combat the mean streets of New Orleans. Addressing issues of not only mental health, but other issues including abuse, family counseling, stress management, aging and self-esteem. My life proved of the many of theories to be correct. Between going through several stages of Erik Erikson's Stages of Psychosocial Development. Going into middle school I knew it was important for me to interact with my peers and this describes Erikson’s fourth stage Industry vs. Inferiority. This integrates with Piagets Cognitive behavior theories because it describes children in that same age category making decisions and thinking logically about their lives.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
