This also brings up another reason as to why the Black Church is an impediment to helping the community understand same sex relations . If they act like they are against it, then African Americans will not be such a target for oppression . But in doing this, since they have people in the Black community who do in fact identify with gay and lesbian, they are oppressing their own . What African Americans fail to realize is that they are vehemently against homosexuality because of a religion and a sexual morality that was imposed on their culture when the Europeans came over and forced their Christian social order on them . So, in actuality this whole idea of African Americans having a hatred for gays and lesbians, is not entirely theirs if theirs at all . The Black Church, being a root of a once forced upon ideology from Europeans, is of course going to be detrimental to Black communities . African Americans will not be able to move forward if they are ignoring the fact that are oppressing themselves in more ways than one . A serious issue of course being that they are neglecting themselves by either being afraid to identify who they are sexually, or putting so much importance into why someone’s sexual orientation matters . This is another obstacle that is truly separating the Black community and Black Church from being completely unified, and not just seemingly so . The Black community and Church being unwilling to address the problems of sexuality, is a major problem that will continue to hold them back and create even more problems until they are able to do so . Since the days of the slave trade when settlers were coming over to colonize Africa, Europeans have been forcing their ideals on Africans and African Americans . The sad part is, is that African Americans don’t see it, so they are perpetuating this never ending cycle . They are now partly the oppressors

or at least the most noticeable ones when it comes to being against same sex relations . The biggest issue is that the Black Church needs to find their own ideology to enforce instead of teaching the ones that were once forced upon their ancestors, never questioning where those ideologies came from in the first place .

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
