c. Check the beaker for defects/cracks. If there are any defects, dispose in the broken glass container and use a different beaker. Place the beaker to be heated on the wire gauze. 2. Connect one end of the hose to the Bunsen burner and the other end to the gas supply valve. 3. Demonstrate that you can use of the striker to produce sparks. 4. Open the gas flow regulator dial on the Bunsen burner about one full turn. Open the air intake valve slightly. 5. Have the striker ready and open the gas supply valve on the lab bench. Light the burner. a. If you cannot light the burner within 10 seconds, turn off the gas. 6. Adjust the air intake valve to produce a blue flame with a light blue inner cone. 7. Adjust the regulator dial to produce a flame such that the top of the light blue inner cone is just below the first iron ring. 8. Extinguish the flame by shutting off the gas supply valve on the lab bench. Afterwards, close the gas regulator dial and the air intake valve on the burner. Remove the hose. 9. Use the beaker tongs to carefully remove the beaker and place it on the lab bench.
