Needless to say, this greatly improved Milk’s success and played a huge part in giving him the victory. One of Harvey Milk’s greatest accomplishments waswhen he successfully defeated the Briggs initiative, or Proposition 6. This one of the greatest moments in Harvey Milk’s political tenure because it shows the persuasion and grassroots initiatives that were conducted in order to defeat the opposition, an endeavor that is at the heart of state and local politics. This shows that in politics is takes great preparation with respect to debating your opponent such as when Milk debated State Rep. John Briggs and shows how to galvanize a group of strong supports such as when he campaigned all across California. Harvey Milk was ultimately killed by Dan White due to an initiative that Milk did not wanted to support which was to ban psychiatric hospitals because of negative effects that it would have on children in need for those services. Politics is seamless transactions between politically connected people in order to achieve an objective such as political elections, public support, and policy. Although Harvey Milk was killed by Dan White, his purpose will live forever and gives us the perfect illustration on how to get things done in dark times.
