More than half of the shops I toured when I visited Turkey last summer hold the evil eye talismans to market as accessories or even as home decoration. I assumed it was because they were following the Islamic religion. I even questioned a few people whether they believed this or not about the eye- like sign. Most of the people I questioned said they were strengthened by many misfortunes and given chances to their life that were never previously given to them. I didn't want their values to be disrespected that's why I thought it was better to keep quiet. I decided to give it a try after realizing that many people still believe in this talisman, which was why I bought an evil eye bracelet. The bracelet I decided to purchase was black and blue, the colors black and blue reflect the protection of karma and life. Fourteen different colors are available and each color represents protection against different classification. For example, black evil eye talisman represents for power and prosperity protection. (Elworthy, 1989, p. 133) I've had this bracelet for about a year, so if someone were to question me if it stopped any of the misfortunes that I encountered, my answer would be no it did not. If anything, I would say the exact inverse was done This year I was faced with many unfortunate incidents and if what is real for most of the people who believe in the evil eye, I assume it could have prevented it from occurring.
