Reporter. This the very first time they have been able to observe an animal other than humans make tools, this was also once a defining characteristic that separated us from other animals. When Louis Leake found out the news he made this famous quote, "Now we must redefine tool, redefine Man, or accept chimpanzees as humans." Another example is Gombe chimpanzees use objects such as stems, twigs, branches, leaves, and rocks in different ways to accomplish tasks associated with feeding, drinking, cleaning themselves, investigating out-of-reach objects, and as weapons. These chimps also crunch up leaves and use them as sponges to drink water and throw sticks and rocks to intimidate other chimps. I also learned that these displays and action have been passed from one generation to the next kind of like the monkeys that washed the sweet potatoes in the water and it became a tradition. Humans and chimps aren’t so different from one another In fact they share 98.8 percent of DNA with one another. Chimp’s and Bonobo’s are our closest living relatives we share
similarities in appearance and behavior. Chimps are also very sociable just like humans they want to be around other chimps as we want to be around other people. Chimps have their own language different from ours but they are stay able to communicate between themselves just fine.
