Each department or area within organization has own set of files o What is the database approach? Many programs and users can share data in database Secures data so only authorized users can access certain data Strengths of the database approach o Reduced database redundancy o Improved data integrity o Shared data o Easier access o Reduced development time Disadvantages of databases

o More complexity: DBMs can be difficult to set up and operate Many decisions must be made correctly for the DBMs to work effectively in addition; users have to learn new procedures to take full advantage of DBMS. o More difficult to recover from a failure With the traditional approach to file management, a failure of a file affects only a single program. With DBMS, a failure can shut down the entire database. o More expensive The hierarchy of data o Database: collection of integrated and related files o Files: collection of related records o

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
