Besides violence as a form of resistance against european colonial rule, some more subtle and direct approaches were used for removing and solving central policies. A major unique movement was seen in Nigeria prior to the years leading up to the independence in 1960 was the Aba Women's Revolt in 1929, or otherwise known as the Igbo Women’s War. The Igbo women felt threatened that their autonomy was slipping due to the imposing taxes forced by the local colonial administration which impacted men, their wives, adn cattle. The Igbo women very quickly stood their ground and over ten thousand of them confronted that there must be a change. This rotests, although had a result of fifty five deaths was more focused on protecting the locals economic and political interest by stepping away from the european authority. A similar movement was seen in Senegal where Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba was trying to protect Islam from being corrupted by the COMPLETE AND SUBMIT

European rule. Bomba had a very similar focus to the Igbo women which was to retain the social and political autonomy and remain at least partially influenced by the colonial rule. He had gained a significant following that threatens the French because of the possibilities of big upsidings and attempted to exile him multiple times which didn’t successes. Both the followers of Bomba and the Igbo women had a period in their identity and were able to stand up for their societies though a more peaceful form of abstinence. Source:
