STEERING RACK HOUSING GROMMET BUSHING NOISE– ST004–98August 14, 1998Page 2 of 2If the customer encounters noise in cold weather, when turning, at very low speed (2–3mph), replace the Rack Housing Bushing with the updated part.NOTE:It is not necessary to remove the Steering Rack to replace the bushing.To remove the Rack Housing Bushing:1.Remove the No. 2 Rack Housing Bolt.2.Place matchmarks on the tie rod andrack end so that the toe will not bechanged.Remove the Tie Rod End.3.Remove the Rack Boot, using ascrewdriver to loosen the clamp. Becareful not to damage the boot.4.Remove and replace the Bushing. Besure to align the projection on thebushing with the hole in the bracket.5.Reassemble the Rack Boot using anew clamp (P/N 90461–08688).6.Road test the vehicle to make suresteering wheel is on center.RepairProcedureMatchmarks
