What if “The Yellow Wallpaper” was not about Charlotte Anna Perkins Gilman herself. What if this story is about her parents and what she experienced in ger childhood? Charlotte Anna Perkins Gilman was born on the 3rdnight of July in 1860. She was born in Hartford, Connecticut. (Harris). She was born during the tome of women hard ship. I wonder if “The Yellow Wallpaper” is something, she wrote based off of what she saw as she grew up, or is “The Yellow Wallpaper” a story she actually experienced. Is “The Yellow Wallpaper” something her mother and father actually experienced in life, or is this story based off a family that she knew or that she heard of? We know that according to the article Perkins’s “early life lacked the stability of a permanent home” (Harris). Since she did not have a stable home when she was growing up maybe this “Yellow Wallpaper” idea/ story was engraved into her head and once she got old, she had to right about it because she did not want to see any more women suffer. She wanted to let women know that had a way out from a man’s shadow. “The Yellow Wallpaper” is believed to have been a trailblazer within the women’s movement. Feminism and the lack of woman’s rights was extremely noticeable during the time “The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Gilman”. Women had no rights without a man. They were nameless without a husbands last name. That changed on the 1920’s when women began to get rights. They found their voice in society. They had a name without a husband. The article states “Certain issues, especially those addressed by feminist movements, were not at first treated as human rights violations, and complaints on those issues took time to emerge” (Goncalves). In thebeginning it was hard for the women of the world. They did not get their right over night. They slowly began to get the right to vote then the rights to interact in society. “The region was strongly shaped by males” (Goncalves). This is exactly what we see in the Yellow Wallpaper which is no longer the case in today’s society. Today women are independent they speak for themselves. No man has to be in their life to make their medical decisions. They also don’t need a man in order to have a name in society.
