find a “significant negative relationship between negative perfectionism and agreeableness and between negative perfectionism and extraversion in both groups (Egan & Dyck, 2015). Variables and Measurements The researchers are trying to show a correlation between the amount of perfectionism a participant shows and negative or positive personality traits. The researchers used The Positive and Negative Perfectionism Scale (PANPS) as a self-reporting test to measure negative and positive perfectionism (Egan & Dyck, 2015). The researchers used the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV Axis I Disorders and Personality Disorders, Version 2.0 and the SCID-II to determine their Axis I and Axis II diagnosis (Egan & Dyck, 2015). In the clinical sample only, the researchers used the Beck Depression Inventory to assess depression (Egan & Dyck, 2015). Both groups were given The NEO Personality Inventory-Revised to measure the big five elements of their personality (Egan & Dyck, 2015). And finally, participants were given The Brief Symptom Inventory to self-report symptoms of psychological distress (Egan & Dyck, 2015). Historical Significance There have been many studies conducted on the correlation between perfectionism and personality traits, most focusing on using the Big Five Model.
